I want a library card in California, but am an Ohio resident. Can I get one without changing residency?
The library requires proof of residency. I am in California on a temporary work assignment. I can get a California state ID, but if I get a California state ID am I changing my state of residency?
I am basing this on the requirements for the LA Public Library, but others are probably similar. While they use the term "residence," I don't believe they are using the term with its precise, legal meaning (i.e., intending to remain permanently). They accept as proof of "residence" any two IDs, one much be a photo ID, and the other must have an address, including school ID, personal checks, business mail, etc. So it appears that all they mean by "residence" is "address in California."
