Where should I go to visit the Normandy memorials?
I know Normandy is a large region in Northern France, so I need to know which city exactly to take a train to so I can see where the troops landed on D-Day. I know Pres. Obama was there a couple weeks ago. I want to see the bunkers and the cemeteries where the soldiers are buried, I just need to know what city to go to. I think it may be Caen. Thanks for the help!
The whole coast is a landing area, but some beaches are more interesting than other. 60 years later only a few broken blockaus remain on some of them.
The best would be Arromanches, with the artificial jetty, Longes sur Mer with the German gun site. Omaha beach is just a beach but it was the deadliest site and you have plenty of cemetaries around.
I recommand first a visit of the Caen memorial museum. If you do it properly count at least half a day.
