Why do parents flip about tattoos and piercings?? ?
This past weekend I got a tattoo on my wrist. Its a little bigger than what i wanted but its still very small. It could possibly be hidden with a wide-band watch or something.
I havent told my parents because I know it'll make them mad. But tonight I thought I had finally sucked it up enough just to come out with it. I started hinting around about piercings and my dad told me that if I ever came home with any more piercings than what I already have (2 holes in each ear) or come home with a tattoo that he would start making me pay my car insurance..pay rent to live in my parents house.. pay for utilities.. and my cell phone bill [which i already pay].
I'm a full-time student with a part-time job. I'm a Christian.. but honestly the Bible only talked against tattoo's because of the pagons. I need to either know how to cover it up until i move out in a few years.. or how to just come clean with them and tell them about it and PRAY that they really wouldn't make me do that.
I would come clean about the tattoo. You should explain that you didn't get the tattoo on a whim, tell them why this was important enough for you to go against their wishes and that you respect them enough to be honest and adult about it - and take responsibility for your actions.
Accept what your Dad says - that if you believe that you are adult enough to make such important decisions about your body without consulting your parents, then you are also adult enough to take responsibility for other aspects of your life your parents are currently providing.
I'm sure the tattoo is important to you, and I really like tattoos... but there is a reason that you need to be an adult to go out and get one. Show them you are responsible and mature enough to make the decision for yourself, and that you will pay rent and utilities if that is what they require of you.
I very much doubt they will though, they only want whats best for you, which is probably what prompted them from discouraging you from getting a tattoo in the first place =)
