Is it wrong to take the drink and then the bread in communion?
I was sitting in church this morning when the communion tray got passed around. I guess I wasn't really thinking about what I was doing, because I took the drink and then the bread. I ate them in that order. (PS, the traditional way is to eat the bread and then drink the "wine") My dad got really angry at me and said it was wrong. Is it really?
As far as I know, the only reason for taking the bread first and then the drink is because that was the order it was taken in the last supper in scriptures. Maybe you took them in a different order, but the symbolism is still the same. (and remember, the cup and the bread are just that - symbols. They do not save or condemn you in and of themselves.) Plus, I think God is a whole lot more concerned with your attitude/motivation that in following tradition to the letter.
