Cross Zipper Pocket



I recently had a coworker steal money from me. What can I do?

I received my pay near the end of my shift. I was working with my boss and one other employee with whom I've never worked a shift. I distinctly remember receiving my pay and putting it in the front pocket (no zipper) of my tote bag. I know I did because the thought of whether it was a good idea to leave it there, crossed my mind but I did so anyway. I had left my bag unattended as I do any other night I've worked with other staff members. We left, I walked the 30ft to my car went home, pulled into the garage walked into the house and didn't touch my tote until the next morning when I went to work at my second job. As I went to take money from my envelope, I reached in to discover it was no longer there but the pay stub that was with it was. I did not panic and checked the bag inside out over half a dozen times. I know without a doubt that I put my pay (along with statement) in that pocket. Am I suppose to let the incident go and not say anything because there is no "proof"?

I would discuss it with the boss, and let him decide whether or not to ask the other employees about it. If he has had the same type of complaint involving the same employee he might be able to do something to help you, or at least put that person on notice that they are a suspect in a theft.

You could (and probably should) also report it to the police, but unless someone confesses they probably won't be able to arrest anyone.
