I need some help researching an oak heraldic coat of arms. A description is below.?
Coat of arms woodcarving. Size approx. one foot square. The shield is of an ornate kind. Elements include a chevron and a pale. Two lion heads at top quadrant of chevron; a larger lion head below. A serpent or snake (?) on left side of pale. The initial T is on the left side while M is on the right. Purchased in England; believed to be 13th century. Heraldic coat of arms is placed now in the centerpiece of a wardrobe believed to be 19th century.
Your description is ambiguous.
There may be lines or dots on the shield that indicate the colors, which would help in the identification.
My guess is that you are describing impaled arms, in the dexter a chevron between three lions heads erased, and in sinister a serpent.
A wild guess would be that these arms belong to one of the Moncks, and the sinister side represents his wife's arms.
