What's the difference between the KJV, NIV & the Bible the LDS use? Do they all use original Greek & Hebrew?
No, the KJV used the Vulgate in translation of the Bible back in 1610. The Vulgate was a Latin translation from the Greek Septuagint if I remember correctly. The Septuagint is the Bible the first century church used which is the original Greek for the New Testament and Greek translation of the Old Testament. The Vulgate was then translated from this... which the KJV was then translated from.
The NIV is a translation which did use the original Greek, Hebrew and Aramaic. However, it's not a literal translation but rather it's a meaning or conceptually based translation. The language was also altered a little to allow the words to flow better. Most of the Bible in it's original text was very poetic in form; the NIV tries to capture that feeling as you read it.
The LDS Bible is an altered version of the KJV. While they claim it was directly inspired by God to Joseph Smith, there have been many revisions to the book of Mormon and their Version of the Old and New Testaments. There have been many spelling errors, gramatical errors, and translational errors. The KJV has a few translation errors (they really don't take away from the salvation message, but they are there) which are also found in the book of Mormon and the LDS Bible.
