what is the evil eye?
The evil eye is related to black magick and originated if im not mistaken in Gypsy Magick, protection amulets are worn in some cultures to protect against this form of negative magick by wearing a symbolic representation known as an Amulet or Talisman or, Sigil.
some say wear silver why is this?
Silver repels negatively, some ancient cultures believe that silver disperses negative energy and some believe silver absorbs it.
and there are some that are a hand with a eye in the middle of them what are these?
This is probably the Eye of Horus.
Different amulets are symbolic in construction and represent different things, often you will see amulets, Talismans on the web which also state the meaning behind the symbolic image. You can also create your own using sigils which is a numerical system used to draw symbolic images based on the intent of the practitioner.
More information on sigil magick can be found on the web and only requires a piece of paper and writing impliment, like a pen, pencil, paint brush etc. There are also about 10-15 different types on sigil magick.
Checkout Sigils Austin Spare on the web, he was the founder of this type of magick and numerous websites will appear offering example of construction and execution.
