I want to make my headboard look like a tombstone...How to do this?
I have a wood headboard in that classic tombstone/headstone type shape. I want to make it look more like a stone. I've had it since I was little, and it's painted white and grey. Over the years I've already scraped some of the paint off down to the wood. Should I get the rest off? Sand it?
What color paints would I use? I've heard of faux (sp?) finishings, but what technique would I use and what colors?
Also I want to paint writing on it when I'm done. I don't want to carve into it because it's pretty old. But I want to paint the wording on. What color should I use for that?
And, which should I put:
"REST IN PEACE"
"RIP"
"As you are now, so once was I. As I am now, So you shall be"
Maybe not the last one, but I saw that on one of the stones at our local cemetary and thought it was neat.
There's a pic on a tombstone like headboard. Mine's not shaped like that but I do like the look of it.
you need to create shadows paint
a dark color on the bottom first ,
maybe a dark primer, would work.
then apply your rest in peace, etc.
now use a rag , rolled up in a small ball, and dab. it all over the parts of the primer, with darker , paint
ive used this before, draw a line , i mean like lighting ,down fro mthe top to the bottom of the painted surface , and leave it for 3Min's, now gently brush , out the line, to either side , this looks like a crack , if you use dark blood red paint, mixed with dark gray , it will look cool ,
to protect your art work , use hair spray ,
works a treat
