How is to be absent from the body is to be present with the lord if the dead are in their caskets or urns?
Until Jesus returns & resurrects them, and I think their bodies(they are nothing but skeletal bones) they left will be combined with the spirit body & it will be transformed into a new body)
Let me use myself as an example.
Say I was your son & I died in the hospital and I would leave my body & go into God's presence, but the body that I left will be at my funeral, and it will be buried in a cemetery(to decay & return to dust) so by me being buried in a cemetery I will be sleeping till the return of Christ.
Paul was talking about when the ressurection comes:
6Therefore we are always confident, knowing that, whilst we are at home in the body, we are absent from the Lord:
7(For we walk by faith, not by sight:)
8We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.
9Wherefore we labour, that, whether present or absent, we may be accepted of him.
10For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad.
