Do they cremate just the animal, or with a box or towel?
I had my rabbit cremated after having him euthanized when he had a maggot infestation on his lower belly. We took him to an emergency vet's. I just got the ashes today, & when I look at them, the small part that isn't ground down I can see little light brown pieces, like wood.
A cremation w/ out keeping the ashes, as a group w/ other animals is $60. The private cremation is $213. It came with a small hard plastic urn, that you could insert a small picture on the top.
He weighed about 10 lbs, had thick fur. The ashes are about 1-2 cups.
But if it costs so much more, do they burn the body with a box or a towel or something?
I want to know cuz I rather not be thinking this is my rabbit but when half of it is just a box.
Thanks for answering =]
Cremation furnaces for humans get to over 1600 degrees. At this temperature, any cardboard, wood box, clothing, or wrapping material is completely consumed by the fire. All bodily fluid and tissue disintegrate as well. Afterwards, all that is left is the bone fragments and they are so brittle they will easily crumble in your hands. At this time the Funeral Director places the cremains in a grinder and converts them into what people call the ashes. Althothough the sand like substance looks like ashes, it is really the ground bone fragments that are left after all else is consumed. I would imagine the pet cremation process is very similar.
