Tole Painted You can. For regular water-based acrylic paint you have to use a glass/tile medium. I use the one made by folk art. You paint the design in the medium first. It has to dry for several hours. (intructions are on the bottle.) Then paint the design. Let dry. Then coat with medium on top of artwork. Let dry for 48hrs. I think if you use delta permenamel paints, they are more durable on non-porous surfaces. It has a 3 or 4 step process. They usually have instructions where they sell paint(A.C. Moore, Michaels craftstores, etc.)
