Urn Catholic http://tv.yahoo.com/big-love/show/36538/news/urn:newsml:tv.ap.org:20090311:tv_mormon_church_hbo__ER:38548 If Catholics can have Midnight Mass on TV on Christmas Eve, what's the matter with the Mormons showing their religious ceremonies, unless they have something to hide? First, I have to say that there's nothing about Mormonism that I agree with. But you have to read the story, in context, like everything else is supposed to be read. When the Catholics have midnight mass on television, it's an actual recording of a service. You are a witness to what's happening. But HBO's story is a fictional adaptation of a Mormon ceremony, and it apparently doesn't explain the ceremony, misrepresents what it means, and doesn't depict it accurately. HBO has a right to show what they want, fictional or not, and so they'll win any lawsuit that could be filed. But I completely understand why the Mormons would be upset with the misrepresentation of their beliefs. I tend to think you'd agree with the outrage that would result if HBO did a documentary of the First Family and showed the White House kitchen stocked with watermelons and fried chickens. Misrepresenting someone's belief and perpetuating stereotypes is simply bigotry.
