To anyone that knows anything about full military funerals. ?
My dad died Saturday and he was a veteran. He is being cremated and his memorial service will be held Wednesday at our local church. The funeral home contacted the people who do the military funerals so they could be present for the 21 gun salute and present the flag to my brother but they say they can't do a military funeral unless the body is in it's full form and present and I know that isn't right, I was just at a military funeral where the guy was cremated and there was an urn there at this service. Are these people right, after fighting in Vietnam and serving our country for 20 years and receiving 5 medals and an honorable discharge my dad is not entitled to a full military funeral because he chose to be cremated?
Thanks for you answers. I wonder how many shots they fire if not 21 gun salute, all the military funerals in this area have rifleman that shoot blanks 3 times I just figured it was 21.
My father passed away 20 years ago and he was a LTC. with 31 years of serves in the US Army. (WWI, WWII and Korea) (3rd Army).
Though my father wasn't cremated, but they did play taps and best I recall he had a 21 gun salute as well.
