Can I have a normal ring and have it symbolize as a purity ring?

I really want a purity ring, but I don't know how to ask my mom. So I found this really pretty ring in my jewerly box that has exactly three diamonds in it. I was going to have each diamond symbolize "True Love Waits". Three words, three diamonds. Will it be the same even if its just a normal ring? I really want to do this and I want to make a promise to God.
